An engineer by the name of Charles McCulloch came to the gold fields of Jamestown, North Carolina after the discovery of gold, to build a gold refinery. McCulloch built a gold mill in 1832 and operated for many years. The mill also served as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War. Today Castle McCulloch is a premier wedding and reception site. It also hosts bridal shows through out the year, as well as parties and retreats.
